Pakistan's Fight Against Terrorism: A Critical Analysis (2025)

Imagine a world where children are forced to live in fear, their classrooms becoming battlegrounds. This is the grim reality faced by the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan, as terrorists relentlessly target their innocence. But here's where it gets controversial: while military operations have proven effective in dismantling terrorist networks, some advocate for negotiations, raising questions about the best path forward.

The recent thwarted attack on Cadet College Wanna serves as a chilling reminder of the persistent threat. Thanks to the swift action of our brave security forces, a tragedy akin to the 2014 Army Public School (APS) massacre in Peshawar was averted. That horrific incident, carried out by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), left deep scars on the nation, prompting the Pakistan Army's decisive Zarb-i-Azb operation in North Waziristan, which successfully dismantled terrorist hideouts and sleeper cells.

And this is the part most people miss: despite these victories, a decision to allow approximately 40,000 terrorists to resettle in KP has seemingly reopened the door to violence. Since then, the province has witnessed a resurgence in terrorist activities, reigniting debates about the most effective strategy to combat this menace.

While it's easy to point fingers at foreign agencies, here's a bold question: isn't it time we focus on comprehensive, state-led initiatives to address the root causes of terrorism? Condemnation alone is insufficient. We must strengthen our efforts to neutralize the threat at its core, learning from past successes like Zarb-i-Azb while avoiding policies that inadvertently empower terrorists.

The call for negotiations with terrorists in KP is a contentious issue. Do we appease or annihilate? This question divides opinions, but one thing is clear: the safety of our children and the future of our nation cannot be compromised. What do you think? Is negotiation a viable option, or should military action remain the sole response? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
